Achill Pipe Band was founded in September 2007. The primary reason for the bands establishment was to compete in recognised Pipe Band competitions.
Although there has been a strong tradition of highland piping on the island for over 60 years we have lacked the cutting edge to compete at the highest level possible to us, largely due to financial and geographical restraints. However at the inaugural annual general meeting held in Gielty’s, Dooagh during September 2007, Pipe Major Connor Molloy and Drum Sergeant Owen Mc Namara were assigned there respective positions and began building a young but burly band. After an extremely strong first season on the road, the band has big plans for the future and looks forward to becoming a recognised name on a global stage! And with our traditional island route and contemporary influences we hope to give the world a glimpse of our island..
